Troops of 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with 1 Brigade Combat Team and Tactical Combat Support elements, have conducted an offensive operation against suspected terrorists in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State

This was contained in a statement posted on X by a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama.

According to him, the operation, which commenced at about 9:00 a.m. on May 4, targeted identified terrorist enclaves in Kamara, Dan Gwandi, Manawa and Katsira villages.

He disclosed that during the operation, troops made contact with the terrorists at Katsira village, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Several terrorists were killed in the offensive.

The security expert also said that three soldiers sustained gunshot wounds in action during the encounter and are currently receiving medical attention.

“The terrorists, however, were forced to withdraw from the area, retreating towards the Fakai high ground under sustained military pressure.

“Troops are maintaining dominance in the general area, while efforts are ongoing to dislodge the fleeing elements and deny them freedom of movement,” he said.
