The relative peace enjoyed by residents of Jikwoyi, a community in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was disturbed in the early hours of Friday by the invasion of some unknown gunmen.
According to the information made available by the Jikwoyi Landlords Association (JLA), the unknown gunmen invaded the Phase 4 part of the community where they killed a retired Major General, and abducted a woman in their operation.
”Some suspected (gunmen) invaded (the) Jikwoyi Phase 4 community, early hours of today, Friday, 3rd July 2026.
”(Residents) were thrown into disarray as heavy gunshots were heard from this attack.
”During the invasion, a retired Major General was killed while another woman (was abducted). No traces of her (whereabouts) as at the time of this report.
”The President General Jikwoyi Landlords Association, Mr Dominic Ikagu, together with the Chairman Jikwoyi Phase 4, Alhaji Kareem Bolakale, and other stakeholders kept vigil to maintain peace and order in the community,” information from the group’s WhatsApp platform read in part.
The group called on the security agencies to swing to action, while reiterating their commitment to peaceful coexistence.
”We use this medium to call on the (Nigeria) Police and sister agencies for immediate action.
”The Jikwoyi Landlords Association leadership remains committed, dedicated, and resolute to the ideals of peaceful coexistence in a civil formation,” it stated.
Daily NewsCraft gathered that the suspected gunmen may have embarked on the operation for a Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) officer who owns a bakery in the area.
”But the (late) Major General is the (chief security officer) and (he) had a gun. So, (when) he heard the gunshots, he and his team advanced. But unfortunately, he was shot, and (the) others ran for (their) lives, and they (gunmen went) to him, and shot him (to) confirm (that he was) dead, and they took the man and (the) woman they came for,” additional information added.
