The Acting National Chairman of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Chief Peter Ameh, has called for a comprehensive investigation into the alleged involvement of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council and the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council in the 2026 budget.
In a statement issued on Friday, Ameh questioned the circumstances surrounding the agencies’ inclusion in the national budget, alleging that the budgetary allocation may have been inserted without due authorization. He claimed the development points to possible complicity involving senior officials in the Presidency and the National Assembly.
The CUPP leader called on relevant authorities to launch an independent investigation into the matter and urged the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other officials allegedly linked to the controversy to step aside to ensure a transparent probe.
Ameh also raised concerns over allegations that the Attorney General of the Federation was misled into approving the opening of a bank account for what he described as a potentially non-existent government agency. He argued that the allegations, if proven, would amount to a serious breach of public trust and due process.
He urged anti-corruption agencies, the National Assembly, and other relevant institutions to act swiftly, stressing that Nigerians deserve accountability, transparency, and strict adherence to the rule of law.
Declaring that “the arrogance of power must stop,” Ameh maintained that a thorough investigation is necessary to establish the facts and restore public confidence in government institutions.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and the Presidency and other officials mentioned had not publicly responded to the claims as of the time of filing this report.
