The Lagos State House of Assembly has initiated an assessment of roads within the state to determine their current conditions and plan for immediate rehabilitation. This move follows recent concerns raised by lawmakers about the deteriorating state of some roads in Lagos.

The House Committee on Works and Infrastructure, chaired by Desmond Elliot, began the assessment with the approval of the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, and the House. The committee aims to thoroughly investigate the road conditions, provide recommendations, and collaborate with different levels of government to ensure the longevity and safety of the roads.

Desmond Elliot emphasized the importance of addressing road issues, especially as the rainy season may pose additional challenges. The committee intends to submit a comprehensive report to the House, differentiating between well-maintained roads and those in need of attention. Elliot warned that contractors failing to deliver quality work may face sanctions.

The committee held a meeting with the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Works, presenting documents that would aid in fixing federal roads in Lagos. Femi Saheed, a committee member, stressed the need for a collaborative relationship among federal, state, and local governments in addressing road projects.

Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Works and Infrastructure, Adekunle Olayinka, acknowledged the efforts of the Lagos Assembly and assured that the government would review areas where the committee expressed dissatisfaction with ongoing projects. The government is committed to overcoming road infrastructure challenges in the state.
