Lamine Yamal has reportedly urged FC Barcelona to move for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window as the club weighs up life after Robert Lewandowski.
With Robert Lewandowski edging towards the twilight of his Barcelona career, discussions over a long-term replacement have intensified at Camp Nou.
Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that Yamal believes the Galatasaray S.K. forward would be the ideal fit, describing Osimhen as the “missing piece” in Barcelona’s attack. The teenager is said to feel the striker would lead the line effectively while also linking up with the club’s creative wide players.
Yamal also reportedly believes Osimhen’s movement and physical presence would reduce defensive pressure on Barcelona and open up more space in the final third. The Nigerian is currently valued at around €75 million, though Galatasaray are expected to demand over €100 million.
Osimhen’s future remains a major talking point after a turbulent spell away from Napoli.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has now revealed that manager Antonio Conte played a decisive role in the striker’s exit, admitting that the decision to let him leave was a mistake.
Osimhen was instrumental in Napoli’s historic Serie A title win in 2023, scoring 26 goals as the club ended a 33-year wait for the Scudetto and securing the Paolo Rossi Award.
Despite signing a new deal in December 2023, a prior agreement had already been in place allowing his departure before the 2024-2025 season. A chaotic summer followed, with moves to Chelsea and Al-Ahli collapsing before he eventually joined Galatasaray on loan.
Speaking to The Athletic, De Laurentiis reflected on the situation and Conte’s intervention:
“When we started with Conte, we received an offer of €200m from PSG and others to sell Victor Osimhen and Kvara together. Mr Conte said, ‘Osimhen you can sell, but please don’t sell Kvara’.
“Big mistake. Because after, I had big trouble with Kvara’s father and agent.”
