‎Singer Emoseh Khamofu, popularly known as ‘Bloody Civilian,’ has explained that military violence in the North inspired her stage name.

‎Bloody Civilian, who made the revelation in an interview with Not Just Okay, explained that the name serves as a tribute to victims of conflict and a symbol of resilience in the face of hardship.

‎According to her, both of her ancestral communities have been affected by violence, with one recently attacked and the other completely destroyed.

‎Bloody Civilian said she adopted the name to honour those who lost their lives and to challenge perceptions about civilians caught in conflict situations.

‎“The story behind the name Bloody Civilian is really just inspired by military violence in the North. Both of my villages have been affected: one was attacked recently, while the other was completely destroyed,” she said.

‎She added that the name reflects her determination to redefine how civilians are viewed, stressing that difficult circumstances do not limit a person’s potential.

‎The singer noted that the identity she has built around the name is intended to convey strength, resilience and the ability to achieve success despite adversity.

‎Bloody Civilian said the name also represents her personal way of reclaiming a narrative often associated with vulnerability, transforming it into one of empowerment and achievement.
