    Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan Assumes Office as New INEC Chairman

    Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) formally takes over as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), pledging credible and technology-driven elections nationwide.

    The newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN), has officially assumed duty following a brief handover ceremony held today at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

    The event marked the formal transfer of leadership from the Acting Chairman to Professor Amupitan, who was recently confirmed by the Senate after his nomination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

    In his remarks, the outgoing Acting Chairman commended the dedication and professionalism of INEC staff, pledging continued support for the new leadership. He expressed confidence that Professor Amupitan’s wealth of experience and integrity will further strengthen the Commission’s operational efficiency and public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system.

    Professor Amupitan, in his inaugural address, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the National Assembly for the trust reposed in him. He reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the Commission’s independence and transparency, while leveraging technology to enhance the credibility of elections across the country.

    The new INEC Chairman also called for collaboration among stakeholders, urging Nigerians to continue supporting the Commission’s efforts toward building a stronger and more credible democratic process.
