The Chairman of  the Social Democratic Party (SDP) , Plateau State Dr. Raymond Ibrahim has  assured the Nigerian electorates of the party’s readiness to clinch the forthcoming general elections in the coutry .
He reaffirmed the party support to the leadership of  Alhaji Shehu Gabam as  the only recognized National leadership of the SDP
Raymond made this disclosure during an interview with journalists at Kalwa House in Jos, Plateau State at the weekend
Ibrahim said the party’s legitimacy is rooted in its decade-long history and its role as the platform on which MKO Abiola contested the 1993 presidential election.
He urged the public to verify the party’s recognized leadership through INEC’s official channels.
“Anyone not under Shehu Gabam’s leadership is not part of the real SDP,” warning that  “The law will soon catch up with those making illegal claims.”
Ibrahim noted that the Plateau chapter  remained active since 1999, fielding candidates in every governorship election and sustaining grassroots mobilization across the state.
He invited progressive-minded residents to join the party ahead of 2027, with the goal of delivering a “progressive Plateau” under the SDP banner.
Looking ahead to the next electoral cycle, he confirmed that the SDP is preparing for the 2027 elections and has set dates for internal congresses: ward and LGA congresses on August 18, the state congress on August 19, and the national convention on August 20. INEC and security agencies have been notified and will be present.
The state congress will hold at the party secretariat at No. 9 Murtala Muhammadu Way, opposite the VIO office in Jos. Ward and LGA congresses will take place in  each local party secretariat across Plateau.
Ibrahim said the party is approaching the primaries with the capacity and history to win, though he did not name specific aspirants during the interview.
