The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command said it is partnering with Abuja Metropolitan Lions Clubs, District 404-A2 Nigeria, to end Diabetes in work places.

Speaking at a diabetes campaign programme held in Abuja on Monday, to commemorate this year’s World Diabetes Day, the NSCDC-FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, said partnership is aimed at enhancing the well-being of personnel of the commandant.

Odumosu noted that in view of the nature of the corps’ mandate, that entails personnel engaging in rigorous tasks, regular checks were imperative and vital to keep them fit for the onerous responsibility of safeguarding lives and properties of residents of the FCT.

“Health no doubt is wealth, I cannot take for granted the well – being of my personnel, this medical outreach is part of my agenda to ensure adequate sound health for my personnel because a healthy workforce is a productive workforce.

“Your presence and selfless service is undeniably a testament to what you stand for – “service to humanity,” your club over the years has proved its mettle and we are happy as a corps to be partakers of your humanitarian services: I hope to have more of these partnerships since our job is field related, I will appreciate such medical checks often to keep my personnel fit always.

Addressing officers and men of the command, the lead medical doctor in the team, Lion Dr. Linda John, explained that the Lions Club is particular about the health and wellness of security personnel.

In a statement by the acting public relations officer of the command, DSC Monica Ojobi, Lion John noted that many people take diabetes for granted, stating that diabetes is treatable, adding that early detection with adequate treatment could keep the situation under control.

She urged personnel to indulge in regular exercise, eat healthy diets, reduce intake of alcohol, insist on regular health checks and take their medication as at when due.

The campaign which featured health talks and free screenings aimed at promoting early detection and prevention of diabetes as well as presentation of free drugs to personnel, was led by its president, Hajiya Hadiza Ibrahim.
