The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has tasked the new Area Commanders and Divisional Officers on renewed vigor to actualise the Corps’ Core mandates.
Odumosu gave the charge at the end of a five-day intensive retreat organised for the new Area Commanders and Divisional officers, held at the Command Headquarters, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
The FCT Commandant, who emphasised continued training and retraining as a panacea to ensuring regimentation and efficient service delivery, said the retreat was imperative to sharpen the acumen of the officers and also prepare them for the onerous tasks ahead.
”This training is one in a series of trainings ear marked for you to make you better officers that can represent the Corps any where, there is no doubt, it has sharpen your leadership qualities and reinforce Public service discipline and some measure of regimentation in you. You are expected to be fully aligned with the core mandates of the Corps as well as uphold administrative procedures as you oversee your various areas of operation through this training,” he said.
He reiterated that the five days thorough programme was designed to reposition senior officers for greater impact in their service to the Corps and the residents of the FCT who were their primary responsibility.
He said, “This retreat is very strategic because the Area Commanders and DOs are the face of the Corps at the grassroot, maintaining strict adherence to law, rules and mandate of the Corps that guides your every action, discipline, professionalism, and administrative procedures are non-negotiable.
”We cannot secure the FCT with Officers who are not in tune with emerging security ideals, this is about building competent leaders who will deliver results without compromising standards.”
He admonished them to remain focused on promoting the Corps and imbibe all that they learnt during the period for effective service delivery.
The participants were exposed to operational efficiency, inter-agency collaboration, public service ethics, financial regulations, complaint handling, intelligence gathering, administrative channels of communication and report writing.
