The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a significant achievement in the country’s power sector, marking a new peak in electricity generation and setting a record for the highest daily energy output.

In a statement released on Tuesday, March 2, 2025, at 21:30, TCN revealed that Nigeria’s power grid had reached a generation peak of 5,713.60 megawatts (MW), surpassing the previous peak of 5,543.20 MW set on February 14, 2025, by a notable 170.40 MW. While this new peak falls slightly short of the all-time maximum generation of 5,801.60 MW, recorded on March 1, 2021, it still marks a significant milestone in the nation’s energy sector.

In addition to the generation peak, TCN also achieved another remarkable feat: setting a new record for the highest daily energy output in Nigeria’s history. On March 2, 2025, the total energy generated reached 125,542.06 megawatt-hours (MWh), surpassing the previous record of 125,159.48 MWh set just weeks earlier, on February 14, 2025, by a margin of 382.58 MWh.

These accomplishments highlight ongoing progress in Nigeria’s power sector and reflect efforts to enhance the country’s energy infrastructure. The achievements are expected to improve the reliability of power supply across the nation and help address the country’s growing energy demands.
