Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police command, has issued a cautionary message to Nigerians concerning the sharing of intimate images or videos.

He strongly advised individuals to exercise caution by concealing their faces and any distinctive features when sending such content to others.

Furthermore, Hundeyin emphasized the vulnerability of videos to being recorded and screenshotted, highlighting that this can lead to compromising situations.

Expressing concern, he revealed that he has received numerous reports of individuals falling victim to blackmail involving their intimate images.

Hundeyin urged Nigerians to be vigilant and not place unwavering trust in anyone when it comes to sensitive content. He stressed the importance of taking adequate precautions, such as limiting views or concealing identities.

In his words, “If you find it necessary to share intimate content, consider using one-view features or obscuring your face and distinguishing marks. Additionally, keep in mind that video calls can be recorded or screenshot without consent, often capturing private moments clandestinely.”

He went on to emphasize the prevalent issue of blackmail involving such content, regardless of the victim’s social status. Hundeyin advised Nigerians to remain cautious, rely on their instincts, and provided a resource in case they fall victim to such incidents: “Trust no one. Take necessary precautions, trust your instincts, and don’t hesitate to seek assistance at incb.npf.gov.ng in the unfortunate event that you become a victim of this type of extortion.”
