Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, has instituted a 13-member committee to conduct a comprehensive needs assessment of Nigeria’s borders. The committee consists of members from various organizations, including the Ministry of Interior, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service, Border Community Development Agency, Community Boundary Commission, and a consultant.

The committee, named the “Integrated Border Governance Committee,” has been tasked by the minister to develop a plan for effectively securing Nigeria’s borders. They have been given 18 weeks to fulfill their mandate.

According to a statement from the ministry’s Director of Press, Afonja Ajibola, the minister established the committee during a presentation on border management and control conducted by a consultant in his office.

The statement further noted, “Tunji-Ojo instructed that the committee should ensure thorough deliberations and create an implementable border management plan to enhance the country’s security. The minister emphasized that what is crucial to him regarding border management is the aspect of internal security, which he described as a massive undertaking requiring the collaboration of all key stakeholders.”
