EFCC Set to Prosecute Nigerian Air Force Personnel Over Security Breach

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria is gearing up to prosecute Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel implicated in a security breach. The NAF individuals, previously released on administrative bail by the Kaduna Zonal Command, will face legal action once the EFCC completes its ongoing investigation.

The alleged security breach unfolded when six military personnel, including four Air Force members and two students from the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Technology, attempted to forcibly release suspected fraudsters detained by the EFCC. The suspects, identified as Favour Itung, Rachael Ande, Zuleiman Haruna, Abubakar Ismaila, and Solomon Olobatoke, were initially arrested without incident. However, tensions rose during the intervention by the military personnel.

The EFCC asserts that it showed restraint in response to the provocation and abuse of power by the NAF personnel. Despite engaging in dialogue with the Nigerian Air Force leadership to resolve the issues, tensions escalated when NAF officers executed a commando-style operation to release their detained colleagues at the Kaduna Command.

Emphasizing its commitment to addressing economic and financial crimes, the EFCC underscores that no one is above the law. The release ensures that due process will be followed in concluding the case. The involved individuals, including NAF personnel and students, were released to the NAF Provost after proper profiling.

The EFCC’s resolute stance indicates its intent to pursue legal action against the NAF personnel implicated in the security breach. As the investigation progresses and the case heads to court, further developments are anticipated.
