Two police officers were reportedly attacked by Fulani herdsmen in Agingi community of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, with one kidnapped victim escaping with injuries from knife cuts.
The officer was returning from duty when he sighted Fulani herders grazing cattle inside a maize farm close to his home and asked them to drive the cows away.
According to eyewitnesses, after chasing the herder away from the farm, the herder reported to his brothers who later mobilized and trailed the officer to his residence at Agingi compound.
Residents who witnessed the attack said they stopped him at about 3 p.m. while he was going home, beating him with stones and inflicting knife cuts all over his body until women who were watching started shouting for help.
They told our correspondent that when residents came out, the attackers kicked his Bajaj motorcycle which refused to start. They abandoned it and ran into nearby buildings.
A few seconds later, they reportedly called other Fulani herdsmen claiming that armed robbery gangs had ambushed them and that they escaped narrowly, leaving their bike behind.
Meanwhile, a 55-year-old farmer identified as Mr Ishaya Pandok was reportedly attacked while working on his farm in Ajing, Panyam District, Mangu LGA, Plateau State.
According to information gathered, Pandok was allegedly attacked with a machete and sustained injuries requiring medical attention.
The incident reportedly occurred during the daytime while the victim was carrying out farming activities.
The identity of the attacker or attackers has not been independently established.
The incident adds to growing security concerns affecting farming communities in parts of Mangu, where farmers continue to face risks while accessing their farms.
In a related incident, a prosecutor who is a police officer was reportedly whisked away by a Fulani militia group.
He disclosed that they planned to attack a drinking joint close to Dung Kassa in Jos North LGA but instead went to his house and kidnapped him. He later escaped.
Residents of Agingi behind the Tomatoes Market are appealing to the appropriate authorities to intervene and safeguard lives and property.
At the time of filing this report, there was no official information from the police.
