The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lambasted former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, over his claim that President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies killed his mother.
Amaechi, now the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), had said on Channels Television’s Politics Today that he could not afford medication for his late mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, 89, due to rising costs under Tinubu.
In a statement on Sunday, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, mocked Amaechi as a man who spent four decades freeloading in public office but became destitute three years after leaving power.
The party said while it prays for the repose of his mother, it also prays that employers in his hometown Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area, would find him a job that can feed him and buy drugs.
APC recalled Amaechi’s earlier confession that he was so broke his wife now feeds him, saying his latest claim fits a pattern of “uncanny confessions.”
”For four decades, Rotimi Amaechi freeloaded at the highest levels of public office. He was never hungry and could afford medications. Just three years out of office, he has become destitute,” the party said.
It branded him a “loafer, aimless and irresponsible” if his inability to earn outside office is not Peter Pan syndrome.
The ruling party accused Amaechi of seeking the ADC vice-presidential ticket to return to leeching on the public treasury.
”The presidency is not a soup kitchen, and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi,” APC said, adding that no one speaks more to his unfitness than himself.
