Governor Uba Sani has inaugurated the Kaduna State Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Peace and Security Committee, marking a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen peacebuilding and human security.

The inauguration ceremony, held on Thursday at the Council Chambers of Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, positions Kaduna State as the first state in the country to implement the DDR initiative inspired by the successes of the Kaduna Peace Model.

Speaking during the event, Governor Sani described the programme as a bold and strategic shift in the state’s approach to addressing insecurity, conflict resolution, and community stabilization. He noted that the committee would serve as a platform for coordinating efforts aimed at disarmament, rehabilitation, reconciliation, and the reintegration of affected individuals into society.

According to the governor, the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to sustainable peace and inclusive security through collaboration with the Federal Government, development partners, security agencies, and international stakeholders.

He emphasized that the establishment of the committee demonstrates Kaduna State’s resolve to adopt proactive and globally recognized strategies in tackling insecurity while promoting dialogue, trust-building, and social cohesion among communities.

Governor Sani further stated that the DDR framework would help consolidate the gains already recorded under the Kaduna Peace Model, which has focused on conflict prevention, stakeholder engagement, and grassroots peacebuilding across troubled areas of the state.

The newly inaugurated committee is expected to bring together key actors from government institutions, security agencies, civil society organizations, traditional institutions, and international partners to ensure effective implementation of the programme.

Observers say the initiative could serve as a model for other states grappling with security challenges, particularly in regions affected by banditry, communal clashes, and violent extremism.

The launch of the DDR Peace and Security Committee is widely seen as another step in Kaduna State’s broader agenda to foster lasting peace, restore public confidence, and create a safer environment for development and economic growth.
