The Director General of the Committee of Youths on Mobilization and Sensitization (CYMS), Obinna Nwaka, has urged Nigerian youths to embrace artificial intelligence and robotics as critical tools for addressing insecurity and enhancing national productivity.

He made this call on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, during the National Competition of the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge Nigeria held at the National Space Research and Development Agency headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking to participants, Nwaka emphasized the growing importance of emerging technologies in driving innovation and improving service delivery across key sectors. He noted that equipping young Nigerians with skills in AI and robotics could significantly contribute to solving pressing national challenges, particularly in the area of security.

The competition brought together students from within and outside Abuja, who showcased creative robotic solutions designed to tackle real-world problems. The initiative is supported by the International Telecommunication Union, which Nwaka commended for providing a global platform that nurtures young talent and encourages technological advancement.

“This initiative demonstrates the immense potential of our young people when given the right tools and opportunities,” he said, while encouraging participants to remain dedicated to innovation and continuous learning.

Nwaka was accompanied by Kelechi Ugwumba and Queeneth Ohiri, who also engaged with participants and urged them to strive for excellence in science and technology fields.

The Robotics for Good Youth Challenge Nigeria is part of a broader global effort aimed at inspiring young people to develop technology-driven solutions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), positioning Nigerian youths as vital contributors to the future digital economy.
