    Five Popular Nigerian Celebrities Who Dropped Christianity For Islam

    The Nigerian entertainment industry has witnessed numerous high-profile celebrities embracing the Islamic religion and adopting  Muslim names.

    According to reports, while some converted to Islam due to marriage, others did so through personal spiritual journeys and a search for purpose.

    In this article, it highlights five popular celebrities who have converted from Christianity to Islam.

    1. Burna Boy: In 2025, Nigerian Grammy Award winner, Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, in an interview with American streamer Playboymax, said he had converted from Christianity to Islam because of his search for the truth.

    The ‘Stand Tall’ crooner explained that he was raised a Christian simply because it was the faith of his parents and the environment in which he grew up.

    However, he admitted that despite his religious exploration, he remains uncertain about spiritual truth, and his decision to join Islam has only led to more questions than answers.

    2. Mercy Aigbe: Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe, in 2023, spoke about accepting Islam and taking up the Islamic name, Hajia Minnah.

    The movie star admitted converting to Islam because of her marriage to Nollywood movie producer, Kazim Adeoti, who is also a Muslim.

    3. Priscilla Ojo: Nigerian social media influencer, Priscilla Ojo, daughter of Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, converted to Islam from Christianity, following her marriage to Tanzanian singer, Juma Jux. Jux, who is a Muslim.

    The duo tied the knot in lavish ceremonies held in both Nigeria and Tanzania. Following her marriage to the Tanzanian singer and conversion to Islam, Priscilla Ojo is now known as Hadizah Mkambala.

    4. Adebimpe Oyebade: Nollywood actress, Bimpe Oyebade, also known as Mo Bimpe, switched to Islam when she married her Muslim colleague, Lateef Adedimeji, in 2021 and officially announced her Islamic name, Rahmatullah.

    The thespian in a video shared on her Instagram page at the time disclosed that her parents initially opposed their marriage due to religious differences.

    According to Bimpe, her father specifically questioned her marrying a Muslim, but the couple were allowed to proceed with their marriage after the actor met with her parents.

    5. Faithia Balogun:  Nollywood actress, Faithia Balogun was born into a Roman Catholic family, but her past marriage to her colleague, Saidi Balogun, made her change her religion.

    She adopted the Muslim name Fathia and holds the Islamic chieftaincy title of ‘Atesin Se Adinni’.
