The Managing Director of Dangote Refinery, David Bird, has insisted that its fixed petrol price sold at N739 across MRS filling stations nationwide is competitive.

The MD of the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery disclosed this during a press briefing in Lagos on Wednesday.

His comment comes amid criticism from key players that Dangote Refinery is a market distortion.

Reacting, Bird stressed that Nigerians have a choice to either purchase Dangote petrol at N739 per litre or alternatives.

“The retail price is fully competitive. The consumer has a choice to choose whichever, and I’d like to see a change in how the regulator works for the market,” he noted.

According to him, the Lekki-based refinery successfully achieved 1000 trucks daily and a 500 million liter a day fuel supply during the Yuletide, assuring nationwide fuel supply and price stability.

“We have been able to achieve 1000 trucks daily and 500 million liters a day.”

Speaking on the Naira-for-crude sales deal, he said the plant currently gets around 30 to 40 percent of its crude supply from the scheme through Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

According to reports, Nigerians currently purchase petrol between N739 and N840 per liter in Abuja and Lagos.
