Flight delays: Nigerian govt summons Air Peace

The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has summoned Air Peace over frequent flight delays and cancellations that have been causing inconvenience to passengers.

In a statement issued on Friday by NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, the agency voiced concern over the airline’s ongoing operational issues and emphasized the urgent need for corrective measures.

This development follows a meeting at the NCAA headquarters in Abuja between the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Captain Chris Najomo, and senior executives of Air Peace.

During the meeting, Captain Najomo advised the airline to scale its operations to match the number of functional aircraft in its fleet in order to reduce disruptions and restore public trust.

“We have received numerous complaints about repeated delays and cancellations. These issues must be addressed immediately,” Najomo said, adding that while the NCAA remains supportive of airlines, operators are expected to adhere to regulations and international standards.

He further warned that the agency is stepping up oversight of all Nigerian airlines to ensure compliance with flight schedules and operational protocols.

Air Peace representatives acknowledged the ongoing challenges, noting such difficulties are not unusual in the aviation sector. However, they assured the NCAA that efforts are underway to resolve the problems and enhance customer service.

Captain Najomo reiterated the NCAA’s strict stance against operational lapses and warned that non-compliant airlines will face appropriate penalties.
