Catching Up with Zuru LG Chairman on a Motorcycle

    …As He Inspects Projects

Every prominent governmental leader possesses a unique approach to leadership. Alhaji Bala Isa, the Chairman of Zuru Local Government in Kebbi state falls into this category.

I arrived in Zuru early yesterday morning on official assignment. As we entered the town from the Danko side in a convoy of three vehicles, we unexpectedly encountered the Zuru Local Government Chairman, riding a motorcycle all by himself. That, according to his officials, has been his style each time he decides to check on ongoing projects.

This is his distinctive method of overseeing the various projects underway within his Council.

As we approached the first roundabout in our route, there he was, animatedly gesturing, directing his hands to indicate different directions, and issuing instructions to the workers on the construction site.

I decided to stop, get out, and approach him for a friendly exchange. We pumped hands as I express surprise at seeing him so ordinary. He invited me to join him on his motorcycle as we proceeded to visit another nearby project. This particular project featured an exciting initiative—35 shops that have already been roofed and are nearing completion. Adjacent to it, a previously unused plot had been cleared for the development of a farmers’ and fruits market, designed to offer a centralized location for farmers and fruit vendors to buy and sell their goods.

With little choice but to accept his invitation, I hopped on with him, and I must admit, the experience was rewarding. He demonstrated that go-getting spirit of doing your best to deliver.
I eventually had to excuse myself from the Chairman, who was eager for me to visit even more of his projects around the town and, if possible, extend our journey to some nearby villages. He only relented when I assured him I would return for a more thorough exploration of the initiatives he has started and is currently implementing.

One significant takeaway from this encounter is not only the embodiment of humility but also the dedication exhibited by a leader driven by the earnest commitment of his Governor and political party to deliver exceptional service to the community. When a Governor like Dr Nasir Idris of Kebbi state exerts effort, his subordinates inevitably find themselves compelled to rise to the occasion.
The times are exciting for the people of Kebbi state. A new positive dawn in leadership as exemplified by Dr Idris has taken charge of affairs, and making a wonderful job of it.

Yakubu Ahmed BK is the Commissioner of Information & Culture for Kebbi State.
