The Anambra State has recorded 102,643 free deliveries as at the end of February 2025 under its Free Antenatal Care and Delivery Policy initiated by the Prof Chukwuma Soludo administration in August 2023 for pregnant women in the state.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, who disclosed this in Awka, while reacting to criticisms that Governor Soludo ‘pays no attention to stomach infrastructure,’ said that the policy had also recorded 343 caesarean sections.
He recalled that the state under Governor Soludo had employed over 1,000 healthcare officials.
“Each of the health officials, particularly consultants, doctors, and nurses receive half a million, almost quarter of a million and over N100,000 respectively, as a monthly salary,” he said.
Recalling the newly employed 8,115 teachers, Dr Obidike noted that the Soludo administration had recruited over 9,000 workers whom he argued would remain in the state budget till they retire and begin to receive pensions unlike political appointees.
Obidike emphasized that through 1 Youth 2 Skills Acquisition Programme the Soludo administration has trained and empowered thousands of Anambra youths.
“There is no government ever since the creation of this state that invested in human capital development even in a sustainable way than this government,” he maintained.
