Protest erupts in Otukpo over incessant killings, kidnappings

    Published on

The increasing number of murders and kidnappings in Otukpo, Benue State, has angered locals, who have taken to the streets to protest.

With the shout, “We no go gree!” the protesters stopped major roadways and called on the government and security forces to take immediate action to combat the rising level of insecurity.

The frequent attacks were bemoaned by one of the demonstrators, Daniel Oche, who called them a “constant recurrence.” In a startling admission, he also claimed that the community’s electricity is always turned off before to an attack.

“This has been occurring repeatedly. Even our own houses are unsafe. Have you noticed, too? Light is always taken before any activity by NEPA (JEDC). They seem to be trying to keep us from seeing what’s coming,” he said.
