Nigeria has achieved a historic milestone in its power sector, reaching a new high of 6,003 megawatts (MW) in available power generation, the largest output ever in the nation’s history. This breakthrough, announced by the Federal Ministry of Power, comes as part of an ongoing effort to address the country’s electricity challenges and ensure a sustainable and reliable energy supply.

The announcement, made on Sunday, by Bolaji Tunji, Special Adviser on Strategic Communication to the Honourable Minister of Power, was accompanied by other significant achievements. In addition to the record generation, Nigeria also reached a peak evacuation of 5,801.84 MW and recorded a daily maximum energy output of 128,370.75 megawatt-hours (MWh). These records highlight the significant progress made in improving both power generation and distribution, ushering in a new era of stability for the sector.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, expressed confidence in the sustainability of these milestones, stressing their potential to positively impact Nigeria’s economy and quality of life. “These achievements signal a brighter future for Nigeria, where businesses can thrive, households can enjoy consistent power supply, and the economy can grow sustainably,” said Tunji, quoting the Minister.

The record-breaking milestones are the result of comprehensive reforms and collaborative efforts spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Power and key stakeholders in the sector. Notable initiatives have included
