Marking this year’s International Youth Day, Chief Obinna Nwaka, the Director General of the Committee of Youth on Mobilization and Sensitization (CYMS), has called on Nigerian youth, both at home and in the diaspora, to unite in their commitment to national development and peaceful coexistence.

Speaking in Abuja, Nwaka emphasized the importance of resilience, hard work, and dedication as essential pillars for addressing the myriad challenges facing young people today, including unemployment and insecurity. His remarks followed a series of nationwide protests that highlighted these pressing issues.

The young director general expressed confidence in the current administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging the youth to trust in the government’s efforts to create more opportunities and foster a sense of belonging. He highlighted several initiatives being implemented by the Federal Government, which include the introduction of CNG buses, the Nigerian Youth Investment Fund, and the passage of key bills aimed at enhancing local governance and economic stability.

Nwaka encouraged youth to actively support and engage with government policies while holding state governments accountable for the effective delivery of projects and funds. He believes this accountability is crucial in reducing urban migration and addressing unemployment in rural areas.

In his remarks, Nwaka commended the leadership of President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shetimma, and Secretary to the Government of the Federation Senator George Akume for their collaborative efforts in tackling the nation’s economic and political challenges. He also recognized the prompt engagement of various ministers, including Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite and Alh Mohammed Melagi, in addressing youth concerns during the protests.

Chief Obinna Nwaka appealed to President Tinubu to ensure that more young Nigerians are given opportunities for political appointments and meaningful engagement in policy formulation, allowing them to contribute effectively to the nation’s development. His passionate call for unity and action resonated with the audience, inspiring hope for a more inclusive future for Nigeria’s youth.
