Residents of Kwara State have expressed concern about the hardship the strike embarked upon by the Organised Labour to press home their demands on increased salary and reversal of the recent hike in the electricity tariff has caused them.
When our correspondent went round the capital city of Ilorin on Tuesday to assess the situation, it was discovered that Schools, Courts, government offices, Banks and other businesses are still closed to customers.
Speaking on the development, a trader, Mallam Salaudeen Maliki, said the strike has added to the economic hardship being experienced by the common man.
He said those who have money in banks can’t access same except through the point of sales service (POS) operators which has limitations.
Mallam Maliki appealed to both the government and the Organised Labour to urgently resolve their differences to ease the hardship in the country.
In his remarks a spare parts seller at Ipata Oloje in Ilorin, Okechukwu Michael, said the strike has affected their sales, explaining that customers who have reasons to repair their vehicles are now buying on credit .
Michael, therefore, urged government and the Organised Labour to resolve the minimum wage impasse in the interest of the suffering masses.
The labour leaders in the State were out early this morning to ensure strict compliance by commercial banks and other public institutions.
