Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has urged the new batch of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to initiate impactful Community Development Service projects in their host communities and places of primary assignment. The governor emphasized the importance of these projects during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area.

Represented by Abubakar Bununu, the Commissioner for Security and Internal Affairs, Governor Mohammed stressed the need for corps members to focus on meaningful initiatives, which would deter inappropriate behavior during their camp stay and throughout their service year. He encouraged them to embrace their roles with utmost dedication, emphasizing the scheme’s goals of national unity and development.

The Commissioner for Ministry Youth and Sport Development, Mr. Muhammad Salis, represented by acting Permanent Secretary Lawal Mohammed, applauded the corps members for their commitment and enthusiasm displayed during their stay at the camp. He expressed confidence that they would excel and contribute significantly to the development of their communities and the nation as a whole.

Salis acknowledged Governor Mohammed’s support, including funds for camp upgrades and renovations, demonstrating the state’s commitment to the NYSC scheme. Meanwhile, NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mrs. Rifkatu Yakubu, praised the state government’s unwavering dedication to the scheme’s objectives. She called for additional hostels for both corps members and camp officials, as well as upgrades to accommodate the growing number of participants.

A total of 1,325 corps members, comprising 732 males and 593 females, registered at the camp. Upon completion of the orientation exercise, they will be posted to areas where their services are most needed, following the NYSC posting policy.
