The Armed Forces of Nigeria ( AFN) has assured of its readiness to enforce the presidential directive to deal decisively with perpetrators of electoral violence. The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa disclosed this on Thursday during his operational visit to troops in Kogi State.

The CDS while speaking at the Kogi State Government House, assured Governor, Yahaya Bello, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Edward David Onoja, that the Armed Forces is fully prepared to carry out its duty of maintaining law and order during the upcoming elections. He emphasized the importance of a peaceful electoral process and stated that any form of violence or disruption will not be tolerated.

General Musa also stated that the Armed Forces has been conducting various training exercises to enhance the capabilities of its personnel in handling electoral security challenges. He assured the Governor and the people of Kogi State that the military is well-equipped and ready to respond effectively to any security threat that may arise during the elections.

The CDS further urged all political parties, candidates, and their supporters to abide by the rules and regulations governing the electoral process. He emphasized that the military’s role is to ensure a peaceful and transparent election, allowing the people to exercise their democratic rights without fear or intimidation.

Governor Yahaya Bello commended the Armed Forces for its commitment to ensuring peaceful elections. He expressed confidence in the readiness and professionalism of the military in securing the electoral process in Kogi State.

The Governor also called on all stakeholders to work together to promote a peaceful atmosphere before, during, and after the elections. He urged political leaders and their supporters to engage in issue-based campaigns and avoid any form of violence that could disrupt the electoral process.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria has been instrumental in providing security during previous elections, and their commitment to maintaining law and order is crucial in ensuring a peaceful electoral process. The assurance given by the Chief of Defence Staff reaffirms the military’s dedication to upholding democracy and preserving the safety of all citizens during elections.
