The University of Jos, Plateau State has won the ₦500 million Mega Prize for the 6th edition of the National Tertiary Admission Performance Merit (NATAP-M) awards.
The university emerged as runner-up institution with an aggregate of five points behind Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU), having emerged as the best institution with an aggregate of 6 points in the overall category comprising the five elements of the mega award.
However, the grand prize had to be ceded to the first runner-up because no winner-institution of the award can be given the award within five years of previously winning it to curtail the incidence of consecutive winnings by any particular institution. As a consequence of this tacit agreement, ABU, Zaria, was, therefore, given a consolation prize of ₦40 million.
In the same vein, three institutions emerged as 3rd position winners. They are: Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos State, which emerged as the Second Runner-up institution with an aggregate of 3 points in the overall category comprising all the five elements of the Mega Award and winning the ₦25 million cash prize. Next is Akwa Ibom State University Ikot-Akpaden, Akwa Ibom State, which also emerged as the Second Runner-up institution with an aggregate of 3 points in the overall category comprising all the five elements of the Mega Award and winning the ₦25 million prize.
