Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has rewarded students from the state who emerged champions at the 2026 International Debate Championship in Rwanda with ₦5 million each.

The governor hosted the students to a dinner at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Jalingo, where he celebrated their achievement, describing the victory as a significant honour for both Taraba State and Nigeria.

The cash rewards were presented on behalf of the governor by the Executive Chairperson of the Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB), Hon. Christiana Binga, at the board’s headquarters in Jalingo.

The presentation was witnessed by TSUBEB board members, directors and the UBEC State Coordinator.

Governor Kefas said the gesture was part of his administration’s commitment to promoting academic excellence and encouraging young Tarabans to compete successfully on national and international platforms.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Heman Shawulu thanked the governor for supporting their participation in the competition, as well as Hon. Binga for her encouragement throughout the process.

Shawulu said the financial reward would support their education and further motivate them to pursue greater achievements.

He urged students across the state to remain focused, embrace learning and work diligently toward achieving their academic goals.

The students’ feat highlights Taraba’s growing participation in international academic competitions and the state government’s efforts to encourage educational excellence.
