Former Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sarafa-Yusuf, who was also an APC governorship aspirant in the state, submitted her resignation letter to the party leadership on Thursday.
The former broadcaster said the decision followed a period of travel and “thought and quiet reflection” on her political future.
She stressed that quitting the APC does not mean abandoning public service.
“My time in the APC has been an important part of my political journey, and I am grateful for the people I have met, the relationships I have built and the experiences that have shaped my understanding of public service and leadership,” she said.
According to her, her commitment remains anchored on service, integrity, inclusion, competence and a genuine desire to make a difference in Ogun State and Nigeria.
Sarafa-Yusuf had previously contested for the APC governorship ticket in 2023. She said she accepted the outcome then and remained loyal to the party.
However, she noted that political circumstances in the state have evolved, creating new risks that require a fresh assessment.
In an earlier open letter on her 2027 ambition, she said her decision was based on “deep reflection and wide consultation,” and not on “unfinished business.”
She also pledged to maintain a “cordial and respectful relationship” with Governor Abiodun, describing him as the APC leader in the state.
“This is not a candidacy designed to undermine any of our leaders or rewrite the past. It is designed to protect what works and improve what must be improved — without rupture,” she stated.
The former aspirant further addressed the zoning debate, particularly demands from Ogun West for power shift. She called for “inclusion without escalation,” warning that unresolved grievances could create instability.
She said she would return to her professional and business commitments after her holiday while deciding on her next political move.
Meanwhile, Senator Solomon Adeola (aka Yayi), representing Ogun West, was adopted on April 13 by APC leaders in the state, including Governor Abiodun, as the party’s consensus governorship candidate for 2027 at a caucus meeting in Abeokuta.
