The Edo Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended 30 individuals for their involvement in drug-related offenses. Mr. Ondotimi Bebetu, the State Assistant Commander in charge of operations, made this announcement during a news briefing in Benin on Wednesday.

According to Bebetu, the suspects were apprehended during raids on illegal drug and drinking joints carried out by NDLEA operatives. These raids were conducted as a response to the state security meeting held on July 21, during which the government expressed concern over the increase in cult activities in the state. The authorities suspect that these activities are linked to drug abuse.

“The government is disturbed that these cultists are using some unknown substances to embolden themselves, leading to violence and disruption of peace in the society. Therefore, the state security outfits and sister agencies have been directed to collaborate and rid the society of drug abuse,” Bebetu stated.

The recent two-day operation on Monday and Tuesday resulted in the arrest of the suspects, consisting of 15 males and 15 females. The NDLEA remains committed to tackling drug abuse and related crimes to ensure the safety and well-being of the society.
