    Kawel attack: Plateau govt orders perpetrators arrest

    ‎The Plateau State government has ordered the immediate arrest of those behind the heinous attack carried out by armed assailants on Kawel community in Mushere Chiefdom, Bokkos Local Government Area, on Sunday.

    ‎According to a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon Joyce Lohya Ramnap, on Monday, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang directed all the relevant security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice without delay.

    ‎”The Plateau State Government strongly condemns the heinous attack carried out by armed assailants on the peaceful community of Kawel in Mushere Chiefdom, Bokkos Local Government Area, on Sunday, 21st June 2026. The unfortunate incident resulted in the tragic loss of innocent lives and left several others with varying degrees of injuries.

     

    ‎”Government extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in this senseless act of violence and  pray for the speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.

    ‎”This painful incident serves as yet another reminder of the urgent need for collective action against criminal elements determined to undermine the peace, security, and stability of our communities.

    ‎”His Excellency, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has directed all relevant security agencies to immediately intensify operations in the affected area, identify and apprehend the perpetrators, and ensure that they are brought to justice without delay.

    ‎”The Governor has also instructed relevant emergency management and humanitarian agencies of government to provide immediate relief and support to victims and affected families, particularly those receiving treatment in medical facilities.

    ‎”The Plateau State Government wishes to assure the people of Kawel, Mushere Chiefdom, Bokkos Local Government Area, and indeed all citizens of Plateau State, of its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property. Criminal elements and enemies of peace will not be allowed to derail the progress being made towards achieving lasting peace and sustainable development across the State.

    ‎”While urging residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, Government calls on communities to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing credible and timely information that will assist ongoing investigations and security operations. Citizens are strongly advised against any form of reprisal, as justice will be pursued through lawful and constitutional means.

    ‎”The Government of Plateau State, under the leadership of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, stands in solidarity with the people of Kawel during this difficult time and reaffirms its steadfast commitment to ensuring that every community in the State enjoys peace, security, and the full protection of the law,” the statement read.
