A middle aged man, Francis Ifeanyi, was arraigned on Tuesday in a Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing three generators from a plaza.
The police charged Ifeanyi with criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass and theft.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecution Counsel, Babajide Olanipekun, told the court that the defendant connived with his accomplice, yet to be identified and entered Nevely Plaza in Kubwa, Abuja, on May 31.
The police said that Ifeanyi stole three generators worth N1.6 million.
The prosecution said that two of the generators had been recovered from the defendant.
The Defence Counsel, Gloria Ebhozele, prayed the court to admit her client to bail because he has no criminal record and if given 24 hours, he will return the stolen item.
Olanipekun said the offence contravens section 97, 348 and 288 of the Penal Code Law.
Magistrate Evelyn Gara admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety in like sum.
She ordered that the surety must have a verifiable home and office address, with a passport photograph.
Gara adjourned the matter until July 20 for hearing.
