The Bayelsa State Government has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to make their one-year national service count by contributing meaningfully to the development of their host communities.
The call was made on Tuesday as the NYSC officially concluded the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II orientation exercise at its Permanent Orientation Camp in Kaiama, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, marking the end of the mandatory 21-day camping programme.
Addressing the corps members at the closing ceremony, Governor Douye Diri encouraged them to approach their service year with dedication, patriotism and a strong sense of responsibility. He urged them to take their Places of Primary Assignment (PPA) seriously, and leave lasting impacts through community service, knowledge-sharing, and exemplary conduct.
Diri, who was represented by his Executive Assistant on NYSC Matters, Mr Wisdom Poyeri, also called on the corps members to embrace unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence wherever they are posted, stressing that the NYSC scheme remains a vital platform for promoting national integration.
He assured the corps members of the state government’s commitment to their welfare and security throughout their service year, while encouraging them to actively support the growth and development of their host communities.
Diri further advised the corps members to put into practice the lessons and skills acquired during the orientation course, describing the experience as a solid foundation for both personal growth and future success.
”I urge you to make meaningful use of everything you have learned during the orientation course because your knowledge and actions can positively influence others in society,” he said.
He reminded them to remain worthy ambassadors of their families, institutions and the NYSC by demonstrating discipline, integrity and commitment throughout their service year.
The governor also cautioned the corps members against unnecessary travelling, especially at night, urging them to prioritise their safety while carrying out their national assignments.
The ceremony marked the end of the orientation programme and the deployment of the corps members to their various Places of Primary Assignment (PPA) across Bayelsa State for the next phase of their national service.
