The All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, is set to hold its National Working Committee (NWC) meeting today at the National Secretariat in Abuja. This meeting will be followed by the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Wednesday, which was previously postponed.

The confirmation of the NEC meeting was made by the party’s National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore. The NWC meeting today will take place at the NWC hall of the National Secretariat and will precede the crucial Caucus meeting scheduled for Tuesday, to be presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

The NEC meeting on Wednesday will be the first attended by President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima since their inauguration in May. As the second-highest organ of the party, the NEC holds the authority to make decisions in-between party conventions.

Following the recent resignations within the party’s leadership, it is expected that the NEC meeting will approve a timetable for a midterm elective convention to fill the vacant positions. The resignations will be formally announced during the NWC meeting today, paving the way for discussions and preparations at the Caucus meeting on Tuesday.

According to an APC source, four positions in the National Working Committee need to be filled, and this can only be achieved through an elective convention approved by the NEC.

The upcoming meetings hold significant importance for the APC as it navigates the party’s internal dynamics and addresses the vacancies in its leadership structure.
