Abia Electricity Bill Signed into Law by Governor Alex Otti

    Published on

Otti clarified that this legislation gives the government the authority to implement its terms during the signing ceremony yesterday at his home in Umuehim Nvosi, which is situated in the Isiala Ngwa South council area.

The governor stressed that the Abia State Electricity Regulatory Authority (ASERA) would shortly be established by the state.

According to Otti, the purpose of this extensive 64-page law is to support the government’s electricity projects and guarantee their long-term viability.

It also intends to intensify efforts to supply energy to the additional eight council areas in the State that are not currently covered by the nine council areas covered by the Aba ring-fence agreement with Geometric Power Limited.

This is a record that will endure beyond time, according to the governor of Abia State. Everyone wishing to invest in Abia will have their money protected by this document. Additionally, the text discusses renewable energy.

We are making great efforts to move the eight local government areas in the state that are not currently covered by the Aba ring fence under the Umuahia ring fence.

We are therefore quite close to signing an MOU going forward in that direction, and this law would assist that approach. Additionally, it would safeguard potential power generation investors.

We actually hope that if we can supply Abia with all the electricity it needs, we will be able to wheel some power to other parts of the South-South and Southeast regions to help them and make some money in the process.

Given that the law had already been approved nationally by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, I believe that we began looking at the electricity bill around the end of 2023.

“It seems that Abia was the beneficiary of the deal. The straightforward explanation is that Abia State is most likely the only state with a ring fence. I don’t know of any other States that have it.
