AbdulHakeem: Appointed Board Chairman by Buhari in May, Terminated by Tinubu in June

    Published on

Dr. AbdulHakeem AbdulLateef, the former chairman of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), had a brief tenure of only 26 days before being relieved of his duties by Tinubu. AbdulLateef had been appointed by President Buhari but was swiftly dismissed by Tinubu.

Prior to assuming his position as board chairman, AbdulLateef took to social media to raise allegations of corruption within the corporation, claiming it was under the control of a ‘cabal.’ However, within 24 hours of his video going viral, he retracted his statements in a letter.

In his letter titled “My Best 26 Days as a Political Leader,” AbdulLateef highlighted the transformative changes that he and the Board of Directors implemented within the 26-day period, aimed at improving the nation’s economy by strengthening the financial sector.

AbdulLateef’s appointment officially began on May 25. However, with the dissolution of all Federal Government Boards and parastatals, except those specified in the Constitution, his tenure as chairman ended abruptly after only 26 days in office.

Reflecting on his brief tenure, AbdulLateef expressed gratitude for the opportunity and credited his accomplishments to divine intervention. He emphasized his commitment to maintaining his name, reputation, honor, and integrity throughout his term and expressed satisfaction in achieving this goal in the given timeframe.

He stated, “I am celebrating these glorious 26 days for the following reasons. I praise Allah for using me to achieve in 26 days what I may not have achieved in eight years if I do not worship Him. In 26 days, my Lord used me to prove to all Nigerians that renewed hope is possible only if all leaders and followers are sincerely committed to it.”

AbdulLateef concluded by affirming that he successfully fulfilled his responsibilities with an unblemished record, thus meeting his primary concern of accountability during his tenure.
