The Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate for the 2027 general elections, Dr Chibuzo Okereke, has congratulated President Donald Trump and the people of the United States on the country’s 250th Independence Anniversary, describing America as a “champion and sustainer of freedom in the world.”
In a letter dated July 4, 2026 and addressed to the White House, Okereke said the 250-year milestone represents more than the passage of time, but the enduring strength of a nation founded on liberty, constitutional order, and faith in human dignity.
He noted that through triumphs and trials, the United States has remained “a purposeful and powerful light in a world often burdened by conflict and uncertainty,” adding that the American experiment has continued to renew itself across generations.
Okereke said the story of America is the story of limitless possibilities, stressing that the country has affirmed that what once seemed impossible can be attained through courage, innovation, and abiding faith.
He further stated that the US has inspired nations to pursue democratic governance, strengthened the cause of peace, defended liberty, and upheld the universal truth that every human being is endowed by the Creator with inherent dignity and inalienable rights.
Quoting 2 Corinthians 3:17, the LP candidate said freedom is “not merely a political aspiration but a divine gift, entrusted to nations and leaders to preserve, protect, and expand for the benefit of humanity.”
He added that history shows that societies flourish where liberty is safeguarded and justice is upheld.
Okereke also commended the United States for standing with peoples and nations in moments of adversity, supporting democratic institutions, protecting the vulnerable, and investing in the development of future leaders across the world.
On a personal note, he said he remains grateful as a beneficiary of the United States Mission’s Leadership Development Programme and as a proud alumnus of the Young African Leaders Initiative, YALI.
He stated that the experience shaped his leadership philosophy, broadened his vision of public policy, and strengthened his conviction that principled leadership remains the greatest instrument for national transformation ahead of the 2027 elections.
