The Former Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Hon Nanmwa Kumzhi, has emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 senatorial elections, following the conduct of the party primaries.
Kumzhi, who promised to tackle the challenges of insecurity if elected, expressed confidence in winning the election.
With the progress in PDP which has suffered setbacks in the election tribunal in 2023, Kumzhi will fly the party’s flag in the 2027 general elections.
The outcome has sparked celebrations among party faithful and supporters across the senatorial district, with many describing his emergence as a reflection of the confidence reposed in his leadership as the former council Chairman .
Supporters said that Kumzhi has continued to demonstrate commitment to the growth of the PDP in Plateau State, and has delivered meaningful political prowess to the people of Plateau, thereby earning another opportunity to serve in the Senate.
Kumzhi called on Nigerian voters to take the centre stage in promoting peaceful and credible elections across the state.
He also urged them to actively engage in the electoral process with a positive mindset, shun electoral malpractices, and uphold democratic values.
According to him, the forthcoming general elections is beyond logistics and staffing, he emphasised that the electorate should also make up the largest segment of the voting population.
“Before the elections, they are involved in voter registration, one of the most critical stages of the electoral cycle. It is a duty that must be undertaken with sincerity, patriotism, and a sense of responsibility,” he said.
In a passionate appeal, Kumzhi urged the Plateau South voters to be upright and law-abiding.
“If you want peaceful elections, play your part for God and for country. Do the right thing. Obey the laws and regulations. That’s how we make every vote count,” he said.
He also drew attention to the role of youth as political party agents, cautioning against misrepresenting facts or feeding political stakeholders with false information which, he warned, could trigger violence and undermine public trust in the process.
He concluded by encouraging young people not to lose faith in democracy or withdraw from civic engagement.
“This is the system we have chosen. It is ours to nurture, defend, and improve. Every voter must play a role in deepening and strengthening democratic institutions,” he stated.
