The Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association, (NATA) Bayelsa chapter, has unveiled plans to reposition technicians for opportunities in the digital economy through modern automotive technology.

Chairman of the association, Comrade Peter G. stated this in Yenagoa on Thursday on return from the National Executive Council meeting in Kano.

Omavie said the association plans to establish an Automobile Innovation and Training Centre for certification in auto-diagnostics, hybrid and electric vehicle maintenance, and CNG conversion.

He said modern vehicles require advanced technical skills, stressing that technicians must embrace technology to remain relevant in the evolving automotive industry.

The chairman also announced a proposed “One Technician, One Scanner” initiative to provide members access to modern diagnostic tools through a micro-credit scheme.

According to him, the programme will be implemented in partnership with the National Automotive Design and Development Council and financial institutions.

Omavie pledged collaboration with the Bayelsa State Government, FRSC, Police, VIO, and Ministry of Transport to tackle fake spare parts and unsafe vehicle repairs.

He proposed a joint NATA-government taskforce to conduct quarterly inspections of commercial vehicles across the state.

The chairman further revealed plans for a health and life insurance scheme for registered members of the association.

He also said NATA would engage the State Internal Revenue Board to stop harassment of technicians by illegal tax collectors.

In addition, Elder Peter Dolor, a prominent member, described NATA as a body of skilled professionals committed to innovation and excellence in the automotive industry.
