The family of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has announced plans for his final burial rites, with interment scheduled for June 18, 2026, in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State.
In a statement shared on the actor’s official Instagram page on Monday, the Ekubo-Okwaraeke family said the late actor, who passed away on May 11 at the age of 40, would be honoured with a series of funeral activities involving family members, friends, colleagues, fans, and well-wishers.
The statement, signed by Mazi Alex Oji Ekubo Okwaraeke on behalf of the family, described the deceased actor as a loving and compassionate individual whose life reflected generosity, warmth, laughter, and unwavering devotion to God and humanity.
The family also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers, visits, messages, and support received since his passing, describing the encouragement as deeply comforting during the difficult period.
According to the funeral programme released by the family, a service of songs will hold on June 10 at The Monarch Event Centre, Lekki, Lagos, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., with guests expected to be dressed in white.
A wake-keep is scheduled for June 17 at the family residence in Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu, Abia State, while the funeral service and interment will take place on June 18 in Arochukwu. A reception will follow at Mary Slessor School, Amanagwu Village.
The death of Ekubo threw the Nigerian movie industry into mourning, with actors, filmmakers, celebrities, and fans paying glowing tributes to him across social media platforms.
The family had earlier disclosed that the actor died at Evercare Hospital after complications arising from advanced metastatic kidney cancer following what they described as a brief but courageous battle with the illness.
Born in Port Harcourt and hailing from Arochukwu in Abia State, Ekubo rose to fame after emerging first runner-up at the 2010 Mr. Nigeria pageant before fully transitioning into acting.
During his career, he featured in several acclaimed Nollywood productions, including Weekend Getaway, The Bling Lagosians, Omo Ghetto: The Saga, and Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story.
