The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Odu Ward 2, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, has suspended Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho, representing Kogi East, over alleged anti-party activities.

Party stakeholders say the move is aimed at safeguarding the unity, discipline, and electoral strength of the APC in the district.

The decision followed a resolution by the Ward Executive Committee at its meeting on May 26, 2026, after reviewing what officials described as “protracted anti-party activities” by the Senator.

In a suspension letter sighted by reporters on Thursday and signed by ward Chairman, Shaibu Mohammed; and Secretary, Kabiru Mohammed with other executives, the party accused Echocho of hobnobbing with opposition leaders and engaging in talks aimed at defecting from the APC.

According to the letter, the Senator’s actions followed what party leaders called a disappointing performance during APC’s political consultations and internal processes.

They alleged the moves were part of efforts to actualize a “self-serving third-term agenda.”

The Ward EXCO further accused Echocho of consistently working against the interests of the APC despite benefiting from the platform for eight years.

The party claimed he failed to deliver his polling unit during the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections and did not provide expected leadership during key political contests in the state.

Speaking to journalists after the announcement, APC chieftain, Mallam Nasiru Musa, said the suspension was timely and necessary to preserve the party’s integrity in Kogi East.

“Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho’s activities have become cancerous to the party. For eight years, he served himself and his family while the people suffered neglect and poor representation.

“We can no longer accommodate a Senator who failed the people and has shown desperation to pull down the house simply because the party and the people rejected his third-term ambition,” Musa said.

Stakeholders across Kogi East have also expressed disappointment over what they described as the lack of visible impact from Echocho’s representation.

They insisted that the APC must prioritize loyalty, service, and the collective interest of the people above personal ambition.

Party faithful in the area commended the Ward Executive Committee for what they called a courageous and disciplined step to cleanse the party of members allegedly working against its stability and progress.

The suspension letter, signed by members of the Ward EXCO, stated that the decision would serve as a deterrent to others whose actions threaten the unity and electoral strength of the APC in Kogi State.

Attempt to speak with the suspended Senator proved abortive as at time of filling this report. Repeated calls to his cell phone rang out. He has not also responded to text messages sent to him as at the time of filling this report.
