Zamfara PDP chair dumps party for APC

    Published on

The political winds in Zamfara shifted again as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Sadiq Abubakar, officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
State APC publicity secretary, Yusuf Idris, confirmed the development in a statement on Monday, describing the defection as a “welcome boost” for the party.
Abubakar announced his exit from the PDP on Sunday, declaring that the party had become “dead in Zamfara”, weighed down by internal crises at the national level.
He was received at the Kaura Namoda APC secretariat by former state APC chairman, Lawal Liman, and the local government chairman of the party, Sule Gabake. Liman assured the defectors of fair treatment and inclusion, stressing that the party leadership under Abdulaziz Yari and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, was working tirelessly to stabilise the polity.
