The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled former Agege Local Government Chairman, Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, and Azeez Oladapo Yusuf Ninalowo for defecting to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The duo dumped the APC for the APM to contest the 2027 Lagos State House of Assembly election for Agege Constituency I and II seats.
Their expulsion followed their rejection of the outcome of the APC nomination process and decision to pursue their ambitions on another platform.
This was contained in a statement on Wednesday by the Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi.
Ojelabi accused Egunjobi and Ninalowo of anti-party activities, disloyalty and conduct that violated the party’s rules.
According to the party, both politicians participated in the APC nomination process but, after failing to emerge as candidates following a review of the initial results, defected to the APM.
The APC said it invoked Article 9(5)(II) of its 2022 amended constitution to expel them.
”The party’s position is that membership of the APC cannot be treated as a convenient political garment to be worn during a primary and discarded immediately after an unsuccessful outcome,” Ojelabi stated.
He said members who lose primaries are expected to accept the result or seek redress through party mechanisms, not defect within the same electoral cycle.
Egunjobi and Ninalowo were initially declared winners of the APC primaries in May 2026 and were adopted as consensus candidates at an Agege caucus meeting chaired by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, before the party later recognised Oluwagbenga Abiola for Agege I and Enimakure Akindele Sakiru for Agege II.
Egunjobi has since challenged the revised outcome, alleging it did not reflect the votes recorded during the primary.
