Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Prince Omar Bolaji Gambari as Director-General of its Campaign Organisation for the 2027 governorship election.
The decision was reached at an expanded meeting of the party leadership and its governorship candidate, Engr Suleiman Bolakale Kawu Agaka, presided over by the state chairman, Hon Isa Bawa Adamu.
This was contained in a statement issued in Ilorin on Wednesday by the State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara.
Adewara said Gambari’s appointment was based on his professional experience, organisational capacity, knowledge of Kwara’s political landscape and engagement with youths across the state.
He informed that Gambari was among the leading aspirants who contested the PDP’s 2026 governorship primary, and remained active in the party after Agaka emerged as candidate.
The party said the director general would coordinate its entire campaign structure ahead of the 2027 polls.
”Prince Omar Bolaji Gambari brings to this responsibility a combination of professional experience, youthful energy, organisational exposure and an understanding of contemporary political communication,” the statement said.
Gambari, from the Ilorin Emirate royal family, studied Economics before obtaining a Law degree from Fordham University, New York, where he was admitted to the New York State Bar in 2000.
He briefly served in the Nigerian Army and later worked with Merrill Lynch, the United Nations Legal Department and international law firm, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett before setting up his own practice.
His business interests span real estate, energy and agriculture, while his youth development work includes founding the Nigerian Youth Organisation in New York and initiatives through the OBG Foundation.
The party said the appointment marks another stage in its preparations to reclaim the state in 2027.
