The family of the late former Inspector General of Police, Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, has released details of his burial rites, which will span from September 24 to October 5, 2025, across Abuja, Sabongida Ora, and Benin City, Edo State.
The programme will commence on Wednesday, September 24, with a Day of Tribute at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja, beginning at 3 p.m. This will be followed by a Service of Songs on Friday, September 26, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, Abuja. On Sunday, September 28, his body will depart Abuja for Benin City, Edo State.
Activities will continue in his hometown, Sabongida Ora, on Monday, September 29, with a Procession and Candlelight at the Ministar Event Centre. Mourners are expected to appear in branded T-shirts as a mark of respect.
In recognition of his distinguished legal career, the Edo State Judiciary and the Nigerian Bar Association will hold a Valedictory Session in his honour on Thursday, October 2, at the Edo State High Court, Sapele Road, Benin City. Lawyers are expected to turn out in their robes for the solemn occasion.
In Benin City, a Service of Songs will be held on Friday, October 3, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road. The following day, Saturday, October 4, a Requiem Mass will take place at the same church at 10 a.m., after which the late Arase will be laid to rest in his private residence at GRA, Benin City. A Reception will follow at Horatio Marquee, Okada Avenue, GRA.
The burial rites will conclude with a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, October 5, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin City, starting at 10 a.m.
Dr. Solomon Arase, who served as Nigeria’s 18th Inspector General of Police, and Chairman Police Service Commission, is being remembered not only for his trailblazing career in law enforcement and legal practice but also for his service to humanity.
