NDC reaches out to Obi, Kwankwaso ahead of 2027 presidential race

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to defect to its platform and contest the 2027 presidential election.

In a post shared on Sunday via its official 𝕏 handle, the party hinted at a limited window for both politicians to make a decision.

“All we need right now. Just all we need. 2 weeks to the deadline,” the party wrote.

The post featured an image of Obi and Kwankwaso shaking hands, accompanied by the caption: “Nigeria will be OK.”

The appeal comes days after supporters of the two politicians unveiled the “OK Movement,” aimed at mobilising support for a potential joint ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.

Justin Ijeh, the group’s National Publicity Secretary, had announced the constitution of its national executive council, as well as zonal and state structures.

Both Obi and Kwankwaso are key figures in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is currently grappling with internal leadership disputes.

On April 22, the Supreme Court reserved judgment in an appeal filed by a faction led by David Mark against a suit instituted by rival chairman Nafiu Bala.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed May 30, 2026, as the deadline for political parties to submit membership registers and nominate candidates for the 2027 elections.

On Saturday, opposition parties, including factions of the ADC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), called on INEC to extend the deadline for party primaries to the end of July.

They argued that the current timetable could disadvantage opposition parties still grappling with internal challenges.
