The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, has reacted to his endorsement by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to take over from him in 2027.

Hamzat, in a statement shared via his Facebook account on Monday, appreciated the confidence reposed in him and vowed to continue working to build a better Lagos.

It was earlier reported that Sanwo-Olu on Monday formally endorsed his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as his preferred successor for the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement came after a closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina, where Hamzat declared his intention to contest before members of the State Executive Council and key party leaders.

Addressing journalists, Sanwo-Olu said the decision was reached unanimously by stakeholders present.

“We just received Mr Deputy… to inform us of his intention to contest for the seat of the governorship position of the state,” he said.

The governor described Hamzat as capable and experienced, expressing confidence in his leadership abilities.

Hamzat, in his reaction, said the endorsement means a great deal to him.

“Today, I am honoured by the endorsement of my Governor, my brother and my friend, HE Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

“His trust means a great deal to me. We’ve worked side by side in the service of Lagos State, and I don’t take this vote of confidence lightly.

“I remain committed to building on the progress we’ve made together, and look forward to serving Lagosians with integrity, focus and a clear sense of purpose,” he wrote.
